Desk Studies and Project Feasibility
Cornwall Environmental Consultants can deliver professionally produced and evaluated desk studies for your renewable energy projects addressing ecological and landscape issues, as well as reviewing planning policy and potential cumulative development issues. We cover Cornwall, Devon, Somerset and the rest of the UK and can recommend other specialists that can advice on technical and financial issues, such as grid connection, air space restrictions, wind speed and viability analysis.
Our desk study and feasibility package has been developed to support feasibility and option appraisals for renewable energy projects at competitive cost, based on professionally verified advice that will reduce the financial risk and potential time delays at planning stage through optimising the location, scale and layout of the proposed development in the given area. This will help to ensure that initial spending is kept to a minimum and early, crucial project decisions are based on sound, independent and professional advice. The outcome will be a technical note with appendices detailing the information available for a site, an initial evaluation of this information and recommendations for further actions.
The following provides an outline of the information that would be included in the environmental desk study:
- Environmental – landscape, visual and ecological issues including designated areas and heritage assets, landscape character, initial theoretical visibility map (ZTV, for tower base, hub and tip of blade heights), review of ecological data and interpretation of aerial photographs, all checked for the site and a radius of up to 5km around the site (or larger if required).
- Planning – Evaluation of data provided through environmental searches in terms of planning constraints, review of local plans, policies, and other sources for information.
- Cumulative Developments – Search of online planning information to determine presence of other approved or pending applications for renewable energy projects in the study area. Review of other existing installations in the area. Compilation of table and map with other relevant developments.
