Trust Consultancy Turns Twenty!
Cornwall Wildlife Trust’s trading arm, Cornwall Environmental Consultants (CEC) is twenty years old this year!
CEC was launched in 1992 to meet the growing demand for ecological advisory services.
Trevor Edwards, Cornwall Wildlife Trust’s Chief Executive recalls the early years of CEC;
“The very first commission was an ecological and ornithological study at Cold Northcott, a site for a proposed windfarm which ran over a number of years. Other early clients included South West Water and Cornwall Council who appreciated our professional service and the quality of our work.’
CEC continues to work on similar projects today. The company’s reputation for providing sound, professional ecological advice means many of their original clients still use their services.
In 2001, CEC introduced Landscape Architecture services to complement its ecological expertise and provide CEC with the unique ability to combine both services for projects including infrastructure schemes, luxury hotels, housing developments and renewable energy.
This new one-stop-shop approach worked and more clients came to CEC for both survey and design work. Developers quickly recognised the advantages of commissioning work this way and early ‘joint’ projects included The Cornwall Hotel and Spa in St Austell and Cornwall Council’s Park & Ride in Threemilestone,Truro.
Phil Hills, CEC’s Manager explains what lies ahead for the company;
“CEC are planning the next stage of our development. Later this year we will be launching a collaborative service to supply marine environmental services, providing renewable energy and civil engineering clients with the opportunity to access local expertise and support the Cornish economy”
In the past twenty years, CEC is proud to have covenanted over £820,000 to Cornwall Wildlife Trust to aid its mission to conserve Cornwall’s wildlife.
