Manfield Way Commercial Site, St Austell, Cornwall – BS5837 Tree Survey and Assessment
CEC Ltd were commissioned to provide a tree survey and assessment to BS5837:2005 and guidance to aid the layout of a proposed builder’s merchants on a disused industrial site, together with a landscape plan to incorporate mitigation for tree loss.
The survey and report was used to support a subsequent planning application. The assessment provided both a tree survey and a tree removal and protection plan which included the layout and specification of tree protection fencing. CEC liaised with architects, planning officers and our in-house ecologists to identify trees for retention or removal while taking account of the proposed scheme. Mitigation proposals were agreed with the planning authority to increase the value of the tree stock on site in the long-term and create better habitat connections, whilst allowing for the removal of the Leylandii and some lesser value ornamental trees. Planning permission was granted in April 2010.
